My First Week at School, San Lorenzo, New Friends and Sunshine

I have been in Rome now for 8 full days. It doesnt seem real. 8 days! I have completed 5 days at language school, Im officially half way through, and thats a scary thing! I have met with friends twice, went out with new friends from school for lunch and again with a girl im becoming friendly with today, and then tomorrow is my second weekend. My how time flies!

So last night I met Federico and Tiziana for food and drink in San Lorenzo. I got the bus to the local station, then the tram to the tube station, and then the tube to the National Library in Rome for 5pm. We wandered towards the San Lorenzo district via the University. We camped inside a Spanish bar for a beers and then wandered down for 'apperitivo' in another bar that is owned by their friends. We had beer, and buffet - the food was good! I was being tested on my Italian in every sentence and I was definitely worse after 3 beers!!!! We chatted for ages and I was coninually being told I was to move to San Lorenzo as it was the perfect district for me and I should move here permanenly and get a job.... If only! After we had eaten we wandered around the neighbourhood. Federico insisted on showing me his favourite pizzeria - we ended up having more food! We then wandered around the streets as I was shown the charming restaurants and bars. It is certainly a buzzing neighbourhood, full of students and nightlife. I was henintroduced to a lovely little pastry shop. Croissants filled with custard or jam, donuts, cakes, anything sweet you could imagine. I chose a croissant with custard to take home and have for breakfast on the way to school Friday Morning.

We then said our goodbyes and I ran for the tram that we could see coming...!! On I hopped and hasty goodbyes were said!!! This tram should take me to Trasevere station.... should... except it terminated in Pirimade... miles from where I needed to be. There were 2 english girls on the tube that were rather drunk and were trying to get to the Trastevere, the same direction I was going in so together we grabbed a tube to Circo Massimo and I walked them accross to the Trastevere. Two 18yrs olds, I couldn't not! They went off for a good time and more drinks and food and I made my way home!!! It was a great evening!!

So today is Friday morning, my 9th day in Rome, and it was the last lesson of my first week at language school. I cannot believe how quickly it has come round - my time in Rome is flying by.. too fast already! The lesson was fast, intense and fun as usual. Once school was over, Karlijn and I went for food.... Pizza and wine to celebrate getting through our first week. We sat, discussed everything from politics to showbiz over pizza and wine. Personally I cannot think of a better way to finish our first week.

We wandered down to te Pantheon to sit and chat, and then we both went our separate ways. I wandered home in the absolutely blistering sunshine... Its easily still hitting he early 30's at the moment...

So home I came, poured myself a glass of wine, and settled into a blissful friday night, chilled and relaxed in Rome :)

Ciao!

xx
